Frequently Asked Questions

Product:

Where are your garments made?

Our partner-producers reside in the villages of Bali, Indonesia.

How are your garments produced?

...

Where do you source your materials?

Since every one of our pieces are hand screened and hand dyed to make the beautiful chosen tones and prints for the season, we start by sourcing raw materials. We look for the highest quality natural fiber materials and buy them in rolls of white, or off-white, which is in their raw form from a local sustainable material house.

From there, all the material goes through a wash process to soften and reduce shrinkage associated with natural materials.

The material needed for our solid white collection goes straight onto production and the remaining material is delivered to our screen and dye house. Our dyers hand match our seasonal shades using non-toxic dyes, wash and rinse the fabric and then line hang them to dry.

How am I supporting the artisans who produce your apparel?

We employ fair trade standards to the entire team involved in our supply chain.  Our partners set their own prices and determine their own daily workload.  Our cut and sew team works under the wing of a skilled veteran artisan/seamstress, who teaches and trains them an invaluable skill set, which they can continue to pass on through generations while making a sustainable living.

Our screen and dye house partners proudly carry out a modernized version of a centuries-old art form called batik screen printing in the creation of all of our prints. Each and every purchase supports their ability to continue to grow and economically utilize their art form.

What is the best way to care for my new JOLI NU. pieces?

Our recommendation is always to hand wash your garments in cold water. This helps to preserve the hand dyed color and the shape of your special pieces.  Please lay flat or hang to dry.

What are your garments made of?

Our pieces are all made from natural fibers of rayon, which is derived from a wood pulp, and linen, which interestingly enough, is technically a vegetable. Linen fabric is made from the cellulose fibers that grow inside of the stalks of the flax plant, and they grow beautiful purple flowers!

Can I expect any imperfections in one of your garments?

Yes, small imperfections and unique characteristics may be present due to the hand-screened and hand-dyed nature of the fabric, we think this adds to the character of every single piece. If you are concerned about an imperfection please email us at amy@jolinu.com.

Do you use plastics in your production?

We are so happy to say that we have eliminated the use of plastics. The bags that you receive your product in are made from Cassava. Cassava is a starchy root vegetable grown prevalently through Indonesia and is also used as a source of carbohydrate in their diets. The bags contain no petrochemicals, they biodegrade in months and are compostable.

Do you have a storefront?

We don't have a storefront, but have partnered with some incredible hand selected retailer. You can find a current retailer near you in our stockists section at the bottom of our website.   appointment to browse the shop.

Do you ever do events?

We do all sorts of events, although not at this given time. You can check our events page for anything upcoming. Look out for our virtual pop-up event happening soon!
